Last year it was all about the ‘90s space bun, but this year’s Coachella attendees are opting for a far more wearable hairstyle: messy waves. And praise the Lord: glitter was used sparingly.

That’s not to say ‘90s-inspired trends were missing entirely from the California desert: Bella Hadid brought back the white scrunchie at the Levi’s party (sending searches on Pinterest skyrocketing by 205 per cent) while Millie Bobby Brown stepped out with a braid-meets-space-buns hybrid.
Australian beauty influencer Michelle Crossan is there to document it all: below, we quizzed her on the biggest beauty trends at Coachella weekend one (for the record, she’s wearing Neutrogena sunscreen and Nude by Nature bronzer all festival long).
What kind of hair look is everywhere this year?
I think messy, bedhead waves are a festival staple and something I think we will see a lot of this year.
How will you be wearing your hair?
I never go crazy with hairstyles, even for festivals. I don’t think you can go wrong with lived in, tousled waves paired with a hat. That’s definitely the look I’ll going for with this year. I have a selection of baker boy hats I’m excited to wear!
What kind of beauty look will you be wearing?
This year I’ll be going with a bronzed and glowing look, sticking with natural tones and colours, but then adding a touch of glitter or gems to the high points of the face. I think we’ll be seeing a lot of understated bronzed bohemian makeup looks.
Any festival beauty survival tips?
SPF all day every day. Never forget your SPF!! And don’t forget to hydrate. It’s so important to drink enough water when you’re out in the heat all day – trust me, your skin will thank you for it.
