With all good ingenuity comes a passion for collaboration, and the beauty industry is no exception. Where bright minds intersect some of the most interesting and creative lines are born.
Leading the charge is Chanel’s Cometes Collective, a group of emerging talents the brand has identified to help shape a new frontier of beauty.
The Collective fosters a ‘creative encounter’ between these talents and Chanel’s master craftsmanship, to create something truly unique and cherished.
The minds tapped for the Cometes Collective include makeup artists Ammy Drammeh, Cécile Paravina, and Valentina Li.
Today, the maison announced the launch of their Spring 2024 collection, the first creation, from makeup artist Valentina Li.
Li is one of China’s leading makeup artists, with a talent for translating science fiction and manga-inspired features into the looks she creates. Her designs are transcendent and other-worldly, with an edgy vamp.
Li has infused a wonderful sense of colour in the Spring collection, an array of watery hues that offer a new palette for self-expression this year.
Shades of blue glimmer brightly and a crystalline iridescence runs throughout the collection, inspired by the sea (from pearls and seashells to the gentle undulations of jellyfish). We also see oranges and corals, inspired by the rich colours of coral.
“Water has been my inspiration for years…Water is the source of everything, including us. The appeal of my collection lies in the mystery of the colour blue, its connection to us, and the way it endlessly surprises us. I want everyone to really be able to feel that,” Li explains.
The collection calls us to abandon the ease of neutrals and embrace makeup as a playground to experiment in. From a gleaming cheekbone to a shock of colour on the lid, the collection is designed to unleash our imagination and make us feel emboldened to express our personality through cosmetics.
The ocean-inspired line is proof that the members of Chanels’ Cometes Collective have been chosen for their vibrant vision, and eye for how we can translate it day-to-day.
