Actor and producer Cate Blanchett talks about her enduring relationship with Giorgio Armani—the brand and the man—and why she loves the newest iteration of the cult followed Sì fragrance.
I’m Really Excited For…
People to see this new expression of Giorgio Armani’s Sì [perfume]. The campaign has incredible energy and invites the perspective of different generations. What is interesting for me is the notion of saying yes.
Even the idea of saying yes to something, you’re pulled towards it. As a woman, a mother, an actress and an artist, we talk about being in control, being powerful, being confident and courageous, and all of those things are wonderful to say yes to.
There Is So Much I Say Yes To…
Much to the chagrin of my partner. I am always saying yes and I do have a lot of energy. So I’m trying to [also] say yes to being quiet—those private moments.
Sometimes you want to say yes to things that are nascent within you, and sometimes you need time and space to think about that. But I do tend to say yes more than I say no.
Both As A Human Being And Artist, I Admire…
Mr Giorgio Armani. He’s one of the greats. He is an icon. For me, it’s [about] the dualities that are alive in his designs. That play with the masculine and feminine and everything in between is something that Mr Armani really understands. His influence on my sense of aesthetics has been profound.
As An Actor…
Anything that I can do to help me inhabit a character or an atmosphere on set I will do. Sometimes you can’t quite unlock something because you’re thinking too logically about it.
Finding a scent for a character [can] allow you to operate on a much more subconscious level.
What I Love About Fragrance Is That…
It’s got nothing to do with the outward expression of so-called beauty. You can create an atmosphere by which things are [only] possible through fragrance. I think [this is] because it is very emotionally subconsciously charged.
It’s about feelings, emotions, and about bringing the past into the present. I’ve got four kids and a very busy life—like many people—and so often I have no time for [beauty routines], but fragrance can always bring me into the day. I’ll always spray it around the room—not necessarily on myself.
What I Love About This New Iteration Of Sì Is That…
It has the blackcurrant and black tea, but it also has this really warm embrace of vanilla. I love the bass notes that are in all iterations of Sì and are very much in this new fragrance.
