Ariana Grande rarely makes a public appearance without her signature snatched high ponytail. Save for the handful of times the pop star has taken out her hair extensions and given fans a glimpse of her natural hair. So, when Grande arrived in Chicago for her Sweetener/Thank U, Next tour with her hair down, social media lost its collective mind.
Ariana first revealed her new hairstyle – which is likely a wig – on her Instagram hours before the show began. Then, she arrived at a pre-show fan meet-and-greet wearing her updated ‘do and two sparking hair barrettes.
Cue, mass hysteria. Here’s what fans had to say about Ariana’s new hairstyle:
Ariana has previously revealed the very relatable reason behind her love of high ponytails and updos, telling fans her real hair is very damaged. “I wear it in a ponytail because my actual hair is so broken that it looks absolutely ratchet and absurd when I let it down,” Grande said back in 2018. “It’s all that works for now (AND I’m comfortable for the first time in years).”
Ahead of the release of her single No Tears Left to Cry, Grande talked with Fader about her signature ponytail discussing her hair in the third person. “The pony has also gone through an evolution, and I’m proud of that. Old pony? I don’t know if she’s that girl. But new pony? I like her,” Grande said. “I mean, it’s like a Victoria Secret angel without angel wings. It’s still her without them, but when she’s with them it’s like, ‘Ohh, I get it, she’s an angel.'”
