Look to your sartorial rotation of 2020 and you’ll quickly find matching loungewear, camera-friendly shirts and chunky gold accessories reigned supreme—thanks, in large part, to our change in daily life amid the pandemic.
But while 2021 looks to return to (relative) normalcy, a peek into the future of our wardrobes proves that the past year has dictated a new wave of casual attire, only according to Pinterest Predicts, a little fancier.
Presenting the social media platform’s latest trends report—which uses their database of more than 400 million users—PinterestPinterest’s head of content and editorial partnerships Aya Kanai, labelled “ath-flow” as one of the new year’s biggest emerging trends.
Defined as “flowy trousers, casual jumpsuits and oversized outfits”, the style is “professional enough for the office, stretchy enough for the yoga mat and comfy enough for the sofa.”
Basically, our loungewear is getting a 2021 twist in the form of modern silhouettes and dressier fabrics. “Comfort now will be critical no matter what, but we still want to look good,” said Kanai.
Of the new trend, pinners were searching for ‘house dresses’, ‘oversized’ and ‘soft outfits’—all understandable considering the upcoming transition from couch to office.
