In an inherently special moment for women everywhere, Patty Jenkinsโ Wonder Woman has officially broken box office records.
Starring Isreali actress Gal Gadot as the Amazon princess, the first film to focus solely on a female superhero is now the biggest blockbuster ever directed by a woman.

After winning over fans on social media, the film grossed $100.5 million ($135.4 million AUD) in its opening weekend (Friday-Sunday) in the US.
It also made $122.5 million overseas, giving it a massive total of $223 million worldwide over the three day period.

According to Warner Bros, 52% of the audience over the weekend was female and 48% male, affirming, once again, that men will watch female leads.

โIt shows that superhero moves arenโt just about men. Theyโre about women as well,โ said Jeff Goldstein, distribution chief for Warner Bros.
โAll the noise about Patty Jenkins breaking the glass ceiling for directors, I think that added to it as well.โ
