After a hugely successful Revival World Tour, Selena Gomez has announced plans to take a break while she focuses on her mental health.
In a statement released to People, the 24 year old says she has been experiencing depression and anxiety due to Lupus, which she was diagnosed with in 2014.
โIโve discovered that anxiety, panic attacks and depression can be side effects of lupus, which can present their own challenges,โ she said.
โI want to be proactive and focus on maintaining my health and happiness and have decided that the best way forward is to take some time off,โ she explained.
โThank you to all my fans for your support. You know how special you are to me, but I need to face this head on to ensure I am doing everything possible to be my best.
โI know I am not alone by sharing this, I hope others will be encouraged to address their own issues.โ
Selena revealed that she underwent chemotherapy 2014 to treat the disease, despite reports she was admitted to rehab for substance abuse.
โIโve been through chemotherapy. Thatโs what my break was really about.โ she told to Billboard last year. โI couldโve had a stroke.โ
โI wanted so badly to say, โYou guys have no idea. Iโm in chemotherapy. Youโre assholes,โโ she said of the rumours.
โBut I was angry I even felt the need to say that. Itโs awful walking into a restaurant and having the whole room look at you, knowing what theyโre saying. I locked myself away until I was confident and comfortable again.โ
