In a statement released to People, the 24 year old says she has been experiencing depression and anxiety due to Lupus, which she was diagnosed with in 2014.

โ€œIโ€™ve discovered that anxiety, panic attacks and depression can be side effects of lupus, which can present their own challenges,โ€ she said.

โ€œI want to be proactive and focus on maintaining my health and happiness and have decided that the best way forward is to take some time off,โ€ she explained.

โ€œThank you to all my fans for your support. You know how special you are to me, but I need to face this head on to ensure I am doing everything possible to be my best.

โ€œI know I am not alone by sharing this, I hope others will be encouraged to address their own issues.โ€

Selena revealed that she underwent chemotherapy 2014 to treat the disease, despite reports she was admitted to rehab for substance abuse.

โ€œIโ€™ve been through chemotherapy. Thatโ€™s what my break was really about.โ€ she told to Billboard last year. โ€œI couldโ€™ve had a stroke.โ€

โ€œI wanted so badly to say, โ€˜You guys have no idea. Iโ€™m in chemotherapy. Youโ€™re assholes,โ€™โ€ she said of the rumours.

โ€œBut I was angry I even felt the need to say that. Itโ€™s awful walking into a restaurant and having the whole room look at you, knowing what theyโ€™re saying. I locked myself away until I was confident and comfortable again.โ€
