Gracing the covers across numerous magazines. Ariana Grande has certainly perfected her style over the years.
First entering the lime light in 2008 Ariana was just 15 stared in the Broadway show 13. Teen Ari rocked her natural deep brunette curly hair paired with casual jeans and tops. Unknown on an international level this pop star was just a regular teen with no idea that in 10 years she would become somewhat of a fashion and hairstyle icon!
At the end of following year Ariana was cast in the Nickelodeon TV show Victorious with now Dynasty star Elizabeth Gillies. Playing the role of Cat Valentine, Ariana was required to dye her hair red which quickly became her first iconic look. Matching her red locks with mini dresses with matching heels and sparkly clutches Ari was following the trends of 2009 and was still searching for her unique style.
As Victorious took off Ariana’s career started to take off as we she started popping up at movie premiers still rocking her crimson hair on the red carpet. Debuting a longer hair look, in 2010 and 2011 we saw the beginnings of Ari’s now infamous ponytail. Continuing to rock miniskirts and short dresses she started to play around with different textures and fits. We saw a lot of A-line skirts, flared dresses, tulle and feathers. Gracing more prestigious events for the first time she was seen in formal wear and cocktail attire.
As she entered into 2012 Ariana Grande’s red carpet style was filled with floor length gowns and maxi dresses. At 19 she was often wearing cute colourful pumps and sneakers. As Victorious came to a close her well-known red hair also slowly faded, however the slick back half up ponytail quickly became her look. Experimenting with more risky outfits she also wore numerous outfits from one of her favourite designer Kenley Collins. Playing with more pastel colours and more A-line skirts Ariana was bold and brave sporting two pieces and exposing more skin.
By 2013 her red hair was replaced by a gentle brunette balayage with warm blonde tones through the ends. Still rocking her half up high-pony, at just 20 she was compared to Mariah Carey and won an American Music Award (AMA) for New Artist of the Year. “It’s a blessing and a curse,” she told Rolling Stone about the comparison. Not only did Ari win her first major music award this year but she also performed her two his songs ‘The Way’ and ‘Tattooed Heart’ in which Lady Gaga gave her a standing ovation for. Wearing a stunning floor length sequin rouge gown, Ari’s pony didn’t disappoint with warm highlights throughout her do. Her performances also were met with more glitz and glamour with flare skirts and sky-high pumps.
The following year Ariana Grande’s career skyrocketed and with it her look really started to develop. From her infamous suede thigh-high boots to her white heels she loved a platform – at just 1.53meters tall can you blame her! Performing at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards she slipped in a black and white latex check number. A month later she hit the red carpet in a leather dress (Moschino) with her black latex over-the-knee boots. Later in the year Ariana Grande lost her pony curls for a straight look pairing it with a pair of black cat ears and a white lace knee-length dress. Throughout the year she played around with a few long dresses and maxi dresses. In December she performed at the iconic Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show wearing a pair of black Louboutin’s (knee high boots).
2015 saw Ari in a lot of memorable outfits. From her February red carpet appearance at the Grammy Awards in her white and metal mesh detail Versace gown to her pink ruffled AMA’s Giambattista Valli Fall 2015 Couture Dress, her thirst for designer pieces exploded. Ariana Grande’s street style emerged with her vintage Chanel handbag making a few notable appearances.
It wasn’t just her handbags that were inspired by vintage Hollywood. Ariana took inspiration from iconic starlet Marilyn Monroe donning a white faux fur jacket, diamond necklace and fitted pink dress at the MTV Movie Awards. 2016 was certainly the year of fur as she slipped into a baby pink faux fur coat at KIIS FM’s Wango Tango. Both furs sitting off the shoulder, Ari is often seen in oversized winter fashion styled in the same way. Taking home Artist of the Year again at the AMA’s Ariana Grande wore white pants and a cute black lace bodice, styled of course with her iconic pony, maroon lips and a sparkling necklace. And performing at the annual Jingle Ball Ari’s adorable outfit didn’t disappoint! With fluffy mittens, earmuffs and a black puffer (off the shoulder) she was just missing a beanie to make it a true white Christmas sign-a-long.
2017 Ari’s ponytail grew new heights…and lengths! Her casual style seemed to correlate on stage. Oversized jumpers paired with sued thigh high boots, wickedly long acrylic nails and her light brunette high ponytail became Ari’s 2017 all seasons look!
2018 was the year of Ari! With some standout moments including, Ariana step out with her then fiancé Pete Davidson in a leather Louis Vuitton skirt with matching Louis Vuitton cat ears…talk about a look! Keeping with her designer pieces her Chanel handbag collection also made a huge debut this year (her jade green belt bag was a hot favourite!) Strutting her way into the annual Met Gala in 2018 Ari was best on the ground for many star watchers wearing a strapless Vera Wang gown inspired by Michelangelo’s The Last Judgment. For a chiffon gold bow draping down her back her platinum blonde pony was jaw dropping.
