The first day of summer means beach and bikinis are just around the corner, so we sat down with mega babe and bride-to-be Anna Heinrich, who has just become the new face of Infinite Cycle, to steal all of her health and fitness secrets.
The question is: If we start now, will we have her abs by Christmas?
Your body is amazing! Have you always been quite active?
Oh, thank you! Yes, I have. Sport back at school was my main priority, I absolutely loved it. I was athletics captain, played touch, football, hockey, tennis… so it’s kind of always been a part of my life. After school finished I’d go to the gym with my mum and play a lot of tennis with my family. But when I moved in with Tim, I upped the ante a bit (laughs).
I can imagine!
When I lived with my mum (and I lived with my mum up until moving in with Tim), she would feed us quite a lot! She would make these unbelievable meals which we still go over and have at least once a week.
I think I’ve seen them! Jude’s Food?
Yeah, Jude’s Food! She literally loves cooking, so it’s like a three-course meal and we invite all our friends over, but if you’re having that every night, sometimes it becomes a little much!
Do you naturally have a small figure, or do you have to work on it?
No, I definitely have to work on it but health and fitness is more of a constant lifestyle thing for me. I don’t ever diet, but I make it a priority to be healthy and have exercise a part of my life every single day, whether it’s just going for a walk or choosing to walk as opposed to getting into the car and driving somewhere.
And that would be good for your mental health too
Yeah! I’m not strict either. I definitely have a good balance. I probably have chocolate or something considered ‘naughty’ every day, but overall I’m eating a good lunch, a good dinner. It’s just about finding that balance and what works for you as opposed to just going on like a really severe diet for a couple of weeks. That might work in the short term, but it’s not going to work for the rest of your life.
What’s your favourite exercise? What do you do most frequently?
Mixing things up keeps me motivated, I find it extremely important because I don’t want exercise to become a chore. It’s about enjoying every form of exercising. I go for long walks, I do body-weighted exercise on the rings, I go on the pump and most recently I’ve started doing Infinate Cycle classes which I kind of just added onto my fitness regime.
Do you work out with Tim?
I do but not all the time. I’m actually going tonight to one of the Infinite Cycle classes with Tim and his brother’s in town so we’re all going together. I kind of recruited everybody (laughs). I don’t always train with him, I like to mix it up. But Tim and I might do a boxing class together on a Sunday and we recently went to the Ninja Warrior gym (laughs) where I had to do some of the ninja obstacles, it was pretty funny.
What does your day on a plate look like?
Like my exercise, it varies and it depends on my schedule. I might grab a coffee or have a green tea in the morning.
Breakfast: My first meal is always around 11am and a breakfast-type meal, so I’ll have eggs. I go down to a café just down the road from us and get the breakfast bowl, which has kale, peas, egg and always add bacon on that. I love bacon! That’s sort of my breakfast and lunch combined.
Then I’ll probably have a few snacks during the day – crackers or fruit, it varies.
Dinner: Ideally, I’d have a piece of meat, a piece of protein with vegetables or salad unless I’m going to my mum’s house (that’s a three-course meal), and then for dessert, we’ll probably have some dark chocolate, berries and yoghurt. But if we’re going out for dinner for friends, I’ll have something on the menu.
Do you drink much?
Not a lot during the week and I don’t need to drink on the weekend unless I’m going out. If I have a birthday or if I have something on, I’m more than likely to have a couple of drinks.
Actually, another tip! If Tim and I are cooking at home, I try and eat off a smaller plate than him. It kind of tricks your mind into thinking you’re eating the same amount. So if you’re going back for seconds, it’s probably like just having the meal I would have had it on a larger plate. That’s what I keep telling myself, anyway (laughs).
And is there anything you will cut out in big events, or more specifically, your wedding?
In the lead up to the wedding, maybe a couple months before, I might try not to eat my mum’s dessert as much as I would, or I would try to cut out more sweet things. But generally, I’m pretty happy with how I eat, how I feel. So I’m not going to all of a sudden be like ‘I’m going to go on this severe diet because it’s my wedding’. I just feel like I’m pretty happy with where I am and I think it should be more about setting life goals as opposed to ‘oh, I’ve got one event coming up, I’m going to eat better and train harder’, I think I should do that all the time.
What’s your skincare routine like? Do you have a single beauty product that you swear by?
I’ve been using La Prairie skin caviar, which I use that at night before I go to bed and in the morning. I try not to put too much on my face because I find that it can get irritated, so I normally just use a day and night cream. I have been getting these laser treatments called Clear + Brilliant, too. They’re very light because I don’t want to do anything too heavy. I think if eat really well, drink lots of water, get good sleep, that can have a huge impact on how you look on the outside and your skin.
