Netflix’s new series Anatomy of a Scandal holds no prisoners with its twist-filled narrative, but its flawless wardrobe could tell an entirely different story in its own right.
That story would definitely be set in Autumn—as Sienna Miller’s costuming proves, turtlenecks, overcoats and knitwear is a foolproof combo for the cooler months ahead.
The show, which has shot straight to the top of Netflix’s most watched, has got everyone talking about the realities of a cabinet scandal, and how it’s dealt with internally and by the press (the novel of the same name was inspired by real-life events). Miller stars in the lead role as Sophie, the wife of a prominent politician who is accused of rape. The subsequent trial threatens to break down the Westminster government, as well as tear his family apart.
It’s a gripping story that has you hooked from start to finish, no doubt helped along the way by Sophie’s eye for style. For starters, she’s a big fan of the humble roll neck—she wears the style multiple times throughout the series.
Then there’s the jackets. Her burnt orange collarless overcoat immediately comes to mind as a standout, while her camel wrap coat, courtesy of Max Mara is also a winner.
And we can’t forget her at-home style—the cardigan and trackies combo has us flashing back to the loungewear peak of 2020.
There’s also a plaid shirt and brimmed hat moment that really cements the place of western fashion in today’s landscape.
Per Grazia, the show’s costume designer Sam Perry (who has also worked on the wardrobes Killing Eve and Sanditon) said she was aiming for an “elegant and understated” look.
“Lots of elegant tailoring, nothing too tight, nothing too overtly sexual. Really classic, dignified but with a fashion forward look,” she added, noting that the layered, wrapped up approach was also symbolic to Sophie’s character.
“[It was] clothing as armour very much. Protecting yourself with your outward expression.”
