The Today Show co-host will be the new host of the iconic Australian TV show, replacing Tracey Grimshaw who famously helmed A Current Affair for 17 years.

Langdon was rumoured to be a frontrunner for the role shortly after Grimshaw announced her resignation, and it’s not hard to see why given her credentials. In a statement, the journalist called it an “incredible honour” to join the show.

“[It’s] a show I love, respect and have been watching since I was in school and Jana Wendt was host,” she added.

She also mentioned that the show would undergo a “big change”, which was a “daunting” feat.

“I won’t lie – it’s daunting to be stepping into the role that Tracy has so brilliantly navigated for the past 17 years with such warmth and compassion,” she continued. “I hope to bring my own warmth and compassion to the show as we continue to tell great stories that matter to our amazing viewers.”

Allison Langdon’s career

At 43, Langdon has had an impressive career in journalism. She joined the Nine Network in 2002 as a producer for the 6pm news bulletin, but quickly jumped from working behind the camera to being in front of it in her first gig as political reporter in the Darwin newsroom.

For the next few years, she worked her way through various reporter roles until 2007 when she became a news presenter on Today. She also presented the morning and afternoon news reports sporadically.

In 2011, she added 60 Minutes  to her resume as a news reporter on the show, and in 2017, she became a co-host of Weekend Today. Two years later, she became co-host of Today alongside Karl Stefanovic.

Alongside her work in television, Langdon also wrote an investigative book, The Child Who Never Was: Looking for Tegan Lane, which examined the highly publicised murder of infant Tegan Lane in Australia.

The Today host previously revealed that she and her husband first met at a bar.

“This guy walked in, and he had his red T-shirt and dark jeans, and you just have that moment where you just have like an overwhelming physical attraction to someone? I just got hit by this,” she explained.

The couple wed in 2008, and they share two children together, five-year-old son Mack and three-year-old daughter Scout.

Her children have made a couple of appearances onscreen alongside their famous mother, and Langdon has spoken at length about parenting and the challenges that come with it.

“When it comes to parenting, we all have an opinion. As parents, I think we always ask ourselves, ‘Am I doing this right? Could I do better? Am I stuffing this up?’ It was nice to know no-one is doing it perfectly, we are just trying to do our best.”

No doubt she’ll give her Australian followers plenty more updates on her young family as she takes on the prolific hosting role in A Current Affair.
