What Adele wears, we too shall wear. And when it comes to the recent renaissance of the beloved British vocalist, her stunning fashion moments have us awestruck.
But her most recent stylistic choice was something that she wore to her exclusive One Night Only TV special, where she took to the stage atop the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles, belted out some former (and upcoming) smash hits before sitting down for a one-on-one with Oprah.
For the performance, the Grammy Award winner stunned the audience in her new favourite black Schiaparelli gown with an elegant up-do. But it was her gorgeous Schiaparelli earrings shaped like the planet Saturn that has been on everyone’s lips.
As the gold planets swung from either ear, eagle-eyed fans were quick to notice that they seemed to match a certain tattoo on her forearm. And it turns out, there’s a much deeper meaning behind both her jewellery statement and her ink.
In fact, the meaning behind both is related to Saturn return. For those hiding under an astrological rock, a Saturn return is said to happen to everyone between the years of 27 to 32.
The phenomenon “is a highly touted astrological moment when the planet Saturn returns to the degree and sign that it was during the moment we were born”, as per Astrology.com.
“The first Saturn return is a time of embracing adulthood. We are stepping up into the roles that will define our lives for nearly the next three decades until the second Saturn return that occurs in our mid to late 50s.”
Essentially, when Adele was creating her upcoming album 30, it looks as if she was going through her Saturn return, and thankfully for us and our tear ducts, she chose to write a collection of songs about it.
Speaking to Vogue U.S. back in October, Adele explained how her Saturn return completely spun her life around, luckily for the better.
“Then I hit my Saturn return,” she said. “It’s where I lost the plot. When that comes, it can rock your life. It shakes you up a bit: Who am I? What do I want to do? What makes me truly happy? All those things.”
Even back when she first announced her new album, Adele referred to her Saturn return while on a now-iconic Instagram Live.
