Those royal genes really do run strong. The Cambridge family have released new portraits of Princess Charlotte to mark her seventh birthday, and on first inspection, there’s only one royal that comes to mind—Queen Elizabeth II.

Indeed, the young Cambridge has been likened to Her Majesty for several years now, and she’s looking more grown up than ever in the new snaps. Taken at the family’s Norfolk residence by talented photographer Kate Middleton herself, Charlotte smiles gleefully next to the family’s new cocker spaniel, named Orla.

Charlotte and the Queen’s facial features are strikingly similar, with their eyes, nose and cheeky grin uncanny.

Charlotte also bears a strong resemblance to her dad, Prince William when he was her age. From their bronde-coloured hair to the identical eyes, there’s no doubt Charlotte is her father’s daughter.

Their likenesses certainly aren’t lost on the royals. In 2020, Prince William famously mistook a childhood photo of himself for Princess Charlotte while at a public engagement.

As he and Kate Middleton politely examined a cupcake display at the local event in Bradford, the Duke was stopped short over one particular photo printed onto the icing of a cupcake.

“Is that me? Doesn’t it look like Charlotte?” He questioned the maker of the cupcakes.

Bemused, he asked again, “Is that me?” When it was confirmed that the image was indeed of William he replied: “Oh my goodness that looks just like Charlotte. It’s incredible, I haven’t seen that before. Very alike in similarity.”
