Sydney Morning Herald reports a deceased male was found in a fire stairwell at the busy shopping centre around 8.30 am this morning. Police from the Eastern Beaches Local Area Command have been attending the scene as they seek to uncover the circumstances around the man’s death. His identity remains unknown, but it’s believed the body has been there a few days.

A police spokeswoman has said: “A crime scene has been established and inquiries are continuing.”

Trade is continuing as normal at the centre.

No formal identification has been made but the police have confirmed the body is of a 71-year-old man who was reported missing by family on January 6. He had not been seen since and the death is not being treated as suspicious.

“Police will investigate the man’s death and prepare a report for the information of the Coroner,” a statement issued by a NSW Police spokesperson said, “The man’s family would ask the public and media respect their privacy at this difficult time.”
